Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness, usually created by distracting the conscious mind with focusing, distraction and/or relaxation. Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis in assisting beneficial changes via the unconscious mind. There are two distinctly different forms of hypnosis, these being invasive and non-invasive. Invasive hypnosis is very similar to 'stage show' and television; since the recipient 'loses' control, this form of hypnosis is rarely used by therapeutic hypnotists. Most practitioners use non-invasive therapy where the client merely 'lets go' and relaxes, thereby becoming susceptible to suggestion. However the key word is 'susceptible', since the suggestions can be ignored or over-ridden by the client.

Hypnotherapy can help with:
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Panic attacks
  • IBS
  • Relationship problems
  • Self-confidence/self-esteem/self-consciousness
  • Sleep disorders
  • Feeling unable to cope
  • Smoking
In fact there are many things hypnosis can assist with, in particular any condition linked to stress.

Stress Management

Hypnosis is the ultimate stress management tool, since hypnosis / relaxation sessions can be recorded and the client be given the tape. By using the tape every day you gain the benefits of hypnosis and deep relaxation (deep relaxation improves the effect of the immune system). By using the recording every day you can have seven sessions per week in the privacy of your own home. Hypnosis can alter the way we perceive both ourselves and the world around us; this allows us to avoid future problems by 'stress proofing' our bodies and minds.

Chinese herbal medicine

Chinese herbal medicine is part of a larger healing system called Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which also includes acupuncture, massage dietary advice and exercise. TCM is a popular method of treatment, with nearly three million Australians visiting TCM practitioners every year.

The underlying principles of TCM are very different from traditional Western notions about health, illness and the workings of the body. Chinese herbs are prescribed to normalise imbalanced energy, or Qi (pronounced ‘chee’), that runs through invisible meridians in the body. Whether or not the philosophy is believed, studies have shown Chinese herbal medicines to be successful in treating a range of disorders, particularly gynaecological and gastrointestinal disorders.

A range of disorders : Chinese herbs are commonly used to treat disorders such as:
  • Digestive problems
  • Eczema and psoriasis
  • Fatigue
  • Gynaecological disorders
  • Hepatic (liver) disorders
  • Cardiovascular disorders
  • Stress
  • Allergies and autoimmune disorders.

Siddha

Siddha
Siddha system is one of the oldest systems of medicine in India. The term Siddha means achievements and Siddhars were saintly persons who achieved results in medicine. Eighteen Siddhars were said to have contributed towards the development of this medical system. Siddha literature is in Tamil and it is practised largely in Tamil speaking part of India and abroad. The Siddha System is largely therapeutic in nature.

History Of Siddha:

The original Home allotted to mankind by the Creator was in the temparate and fertile region of the East and pointedly in India. It is from here that the human race began its culture and career. India may, therefore, be safely stated as that the first country from which human culture and civilization originated and spread. According to Indian history prior to Aryans migration, the Dravidian was the first inhabitant of India of whom the Tamilians were the most prominent. The Tamilians were not only the earliest civilized but also those who may more considerable progress in civilization than any other early people. The languages of India were divided into two great classes, the northern with Sanskrit as the pre-pondering element and the southern with Dravidian language as independent bases. The science of medicine is of fundamental importance to man’s well being be and his survival and so it must have originated with man and developed as civilization. It is, therefore rather pointless to try to determine the exact point of time to which the beginning of these systems could be traced They are eternal, they began with man and may end with him. The Siddha was flouriest in south and Ayurveda prevalent in the north. Instead of giving the name of any of individual as the founder of these systems our ancestors attributed their origin to the creator. According to the tradition it was Shiva who unfolded the knowledge of Siddha system of medicine to his concert Parvati who handed it down to Nandi Deva and he the Siddhars. The Siddhars were great scientists in ancient times.

According to tradition, the origin of Siddha system of medicine is attributed to the great Siddha Ayastiyar. Some of his works are still standard books of medicine and surgery in daily use among the Siddha Medical practitioners.

Exercise and Weight Control

Weight Control
Just about everybody seems to be interested in weight control. Some of us weigh just the right amount, others need to gain a few pounds. Most of us "battle the bulge" at some time in our life. Whatever our goals, we should understand and take advantage of the important role of exercise in keeping our weight under control.

Carrying around too much body fat is a major nuisance. Yet excess body fat is common in modern-day living. Few of today's occupations require vigorous physical activity, and much of our leisure time is spent in sedentary pursuits.

Recent estimates indicate that 34 million adults are considered obese (20 percent above desirable weight). Also, there has been an increase in body fat levels in children and youth over the past 20 years. After infancy and early childhood, the earlier the onset of obesity, the greater the likelihood of remaining obese.

Excess body fat has been linked to such health problems as coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, diabetes, arthritis and certain forms of cancer. Some evidence now exists showing that obesity has a negative effect on both health and longevity.

Exercise is associated with the loss of body fat in both obese and normal weight persons. A regular program of exercise is an important component of any plan to help individuals lose, gain or maintain their weight.

Benefits of Ayurveda

When alternative lifestyles and stressful schedules are talking points in the cosmopolitan circuits, Ayurveda, the art of ancient Indian healing cannot be far behind. The inability of modern allopathy to allay all sicknesses and diseases has made an increasing number of people turn to Ayurveda, which has a cornucopia of ancient secret cures for stubborn diseases. Along with yoga, Ayurveda is the new balm for fevered souls. It uses natural herbs and their oils to treat ailments and ensure a healthy life. Most of the centres for Ayurveda, called Ayurveda Shalas, are in Kerala on the South Coast. This is beach country as well, so bring along your sunscreens and hats. In fact many westerners have made Ayurvedic spas their annual treat, combining a relaxing holiday with cleansing for their bodies.
