Sports Massage

Sports Massage
One way to encourage muscle repair after training is with sports massage. Sports massage will help release any built up tension and lactic acid in the overworked muscles so that blood and oxygen can return to the muscle and effectively promote muscle repair.In addition to using regular sports massage sessions as part of your sports program, it can also benefit an athlete in the following ways:

* Pre-Event Massage can help athletes prepare for a competitive event. A pre-event massage is brief and invigorating, usually lasting 15-20 minutes. It is given within an hour before the sporting event, through the clothes to warm up the muscles.
* Post-Event Massage should be calming and relaxing. Its goal is to ease muscle pain (by decreasing tension), muscle soreness (by dispersing lactic acid), and to reduce inflammation. A post-event massage should last no more than 15- to 20-minutes, and it should be administered through the athletes clothes. Post-event massages encourage the return of blood and oxygen to tense areas, and they flush out metabolic waste products that have built up during strenuous muscle use.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the use of aromatic plant oils, as well as essential oils, for psychological and physical wellbeing. Aroma therapists blend therapeutic essential oils particularly for each individual and suggest methods of use such as topical application, massage, inhalation or water immersion to stimulate the desired responses.

The different smells (aromas), and the chemical constituents of the oils, can create different emotional and physiological reactions. Essential oils can be massaged into the skin, added to bath water or vaporized in an oil burner. Although aromatherapy has been practiced for centuries in various cultures, the modern version was developed mainly in France. Aromatherapy has not yet undergone as much scientific scrutiny as other complementary therapies, but research so far shows that it can be an effective treatment for some complaints.

Aromatherapy can be of benefit as a form of preventative health care. Aromatic plant oils can stimulate, balance, uplift, soothe and calm. Aroma therapists believe the release of stress and tension can allow the body’s own healing process to begin.

Aromatherapy is used to alleviate the symptoms of:

* Digestive problems
* Eczema
* Headaches
* Insomnia

Simple things that you can do to reduce back pain

Low Backpain

Low back pain is one of the most common health problems. It can affect your daily life and become disabling. However, in most cases low back pain does not indicate a serious problem. For 90% of people the pain will go away by itself within a few days. For the other 10% of people the pain can become worse. So it is important that it is treated as soon as possible.

Pain felt in your lower back may come from the spine, muscles, nerves, or other structures in that region. It may also radiate from other areas like your mid or upper back, a hernia in the groin, or a problem in the testicles or ovaries.

There are many things you can do to help prevent or reduce the pain.

Prevention

* Stay as active as possible and keep in good shape.
* Learn what you can do to prevent back strain, such as using correct ways of bending and lifting, sitting on chairs with good back support, sleeping on a firm mattress, wearing comfortable shoes, ensuring your work bench is at a comfortable height, avoiding overweight.

If you already have back pain:

Back pain

* Research has shown that early rehabilitation and prompt return to work and your usual activities are the best ways of getting you back to normal. It doesn’t help to overprotect your back, even when it’s sore. Too much lying in bed makes it take longer to get better.
* Ask your doctor about medicine to relieve the pain (check on side effects or interaction with other medicines you may be taking).
* Ask about gentle exercises you can do to strengthen your back. Set goals to improve your fitness.
* Try to stay positive. Sometimes pain can leave you feeling tired, frustrated, depressed, worried, and angry or just generally in a bad mood.
* In fact it has been shown that this can make the pain feel worse than it actually is. If you are feeling like this you are less likely to want to Exercise and get going and it can take longer to get better.
* So it is important to be aware that pain can sometimes have this effect. Don’t allow the pain to take over your life.
* Learn to relax. Your muscles get tight and sore if you are stressed.

Bowen therapy

Bowen is a holistic remedial body technique that works on the soft connective tissue (fascia) of the body. Bowen therapy can be used to treat musculoskeletal or related neurological problems including acute sports injuries and chronic or organic conditions. It is gentle and relaxing and does not use manipulation. This makes it safe for people of all ages.

Bowen therapy helps the body’s own healing resources to achieve balance and harmony. This can result in rapid and often long-lasting relief from pain and discomfort, often where other modalities and treatments have not been effective. Benefits may be seen and measured after the first session.

Integrated body response

Bowen therapy is performed on the superficial and deep fascia. The fascia, or soft tissue, is the part of the connective tissue that envelops, separates and influences every organ and tissue in the body. It has been called the ‘endless web’ – recent studies have shown it to be the largest and richest sensory organ in the body, having a profound effect on the body’s physiology and function.

The Bowen technique is safe to use on anyone, from newborns to the elderly and for any musculoskeletal or related neurological complaint. It is a holistic treatment that treats the whole person and aims to treat the cause of problems, rather than the symptoms.

As well as providing rapid and often long-term pain relief, Bowen can help to improve:

* Circulation
* Lymphatic and venous draining
* Assimilation of nutrients
* Elimination of toxins
* Joint mobility
* Posture
* Normalisation of cellular physiology and tissue integrity.
