The safety precautions to take when we use whirlpool

1. Always use a locked safety cover when the spa is not
in use and keep young children away from spas or hot
tubs unless there is constant adult supervision.

2. Make sure the spa has the dual drains and drain covers
required by current safety standards.

3. Regularly have a professional check your spa or hot
tub and make sure it is in good, safe working condition,
and that drain covers are in place and not cracked or
missing. Check the drain covers yourself throughout
the year.

4. Know where the cut-off switch

Body-mind therapies vs. body work?

Bodywork seeks primarily to improve physical health and functioning. Schools of bodywork such as the Alexander Technique, Rolfing, and the Feldenkrais Method are examples of postural and structural body mechanics treatments. Though these systems also affect the emotions and mental states of the client, they are not overtly designed to work on psychological issues.

Body-mind therapy is a psychotherapeutic process that works on the relationship between the body and the emotional processes of the client, and is intended to address emotional concerns that are not as likely to be resolved through talk therapy alone.

Swimming Pool Safety Alert

Each year, about 260 children under 5 drown in swimming pools. In addition, the suction from drains in swimming pools and spas, under certain conditions, can entrap swimmers underwater. To help protect your family, be sure to take the following steps.

Use Layers of Protection

To prevent swimming pool drownings, layers of protection are essential. Place barriers completely around the pool, closely supervise young children, and be prepared in case of emergency.

In addition:

  • If a child is missing, always look first in the
    pool. Seconds count !

  • Knowing how to swim doesn’t make a child
drown-proof. Never use flotation devices as a
    substitute for supervision.

  • Keep rescue equipment and a phone next to the pool.

  • Learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Install physical barriers around the pool to limit access.

-Fences and walls should be at least 4-feet high and installed completely around the pool.
- Gates should be self-closing and self-latching. The latch should be out of reach of small children.

  • If your house forms one side of the barrier for the pool, doors leading from the house to the
pool should be protected with alarms that sound when the doors are unexpectedly opened. Or, use a power safety cover, a motor-powered barrier placed over the water area, to prevent access by young children.

  • For above-ground pools, steps and ladders to the pool should be secured or removed when
the pool is not in use. Pool and Spa Entrapment Dangers Consumer Product Safety Alert

Pool and Spa Entrapment Dangers

  • Never use a pool or spa with a missing or broken drain cover. Be sure a newer, safer drain cover is in place. The new drain covers are usually domed-shaped - instead of the old flat drain covers.

  • Consider installing a Safety Vacuum Release System (SVRS) , a device that will automatically shut off a pump if a blockage is detected.

  • Have a professional regularly inspect your pool or spa for entrapment or entanglement hazards.

  • Plainly mark the location of the electrical cut-off switch for the pool or spa pump.

  • If someone is entrapped against a drain, cut off the pump immediately. Instead of trying to pull the person away from the powerful suction, pry a hand between the drain and the person's body to break the seal.

Installation of your spa

Spa Baths should be installed according to Australian Standard AS 3861 so that the water drains from the pump when released from the bath. This will minimise the amount of stagnant water left in the system that may support microbial growth. A degreaser is still required even if the spa is self draining.

Dental spa

Lorin Berland, DDS, a Texas-based cosmetic dentist, is generally credited with coining the term "Dental Spa" in 1998, but spa dentistry was first introduced in 1978 by the Holistic Dental Association. Some of the pioneer Dental Spas in the world include "Cocosmile" in Helsinki, Finland; "Cosmetic and Biological Dental Spa" in San Clemente, California, USA; "Dental Spa" in Pacific Palisades, California, USA; and "Dental Spa" in Seoul, Korea.

In 2003, The American Dental Association revealed that more than 50% of 427 practicing dentists surveyed at their annual session offered some sort of spa or office amenity. In 2005, as many as 5% of the American Dental Association's more than 152,000 members had declared themselves as "dental spas", a number then growing daily in the U.S. and in other countries, including Korea, Brazil and Finland.

Bermondsey Spa Regeneration

History
By the early 1990s, Bermondsey Spa was neglected and run down. The area was badly bombed during the war and despite some house building after 1945, the area was left as something of a forgotten backwater. Apart from a few listed properties, the condition of the buildings was mostly poor, with many vacant or even derelict.

By 1999 changes were in place. Construction of the Jubilee Line extension was well underway bringing the West End within 20 minutes reach of Bermondsey, plus the location of Greater London Authority (GLA) headquarters at Tower Bridge promised to place the heart of London's decision making right on the neighbourhood's doorstep.

The History of Spas

No one know exactly where the word spa comes from, but there are two main theories. One is that spa is an acronym for the Latin phrase, "salus per aquae," or "health through water."

Others believe the origin of the word "spa" comes from the Belgian town of Spa, known since Roman times for its baths. They speculate that the town was so prominent that the very word spa became synonymous in the English language with a place to be restored and pampered.

Modern spas have their roots in ancient towns famed for the healing powers of their mineral waters and hot springs. Travelers would come to "take the waters" and restore their health.

The practice of bathing in hot springs and mineral waters dates at least to the Babylonians and Greeks, and knowing people, probably much sooner!

In the 19th century, Europe's great spas were destinations for the wealthy, who went there to "take the waters." Water treatments are still considered the heart of the spa experience in Europe. Today massages and facials are by far the most popular spa treatments in America.

How to keep the spa pool water safe

Proper disinfection and filtration of the spa pool water kills harmful micro-organisms, removes body fats and oils, and ensures the water is clean, safe and sparkling.
Water temperature and other factors affect disinfection and should be adjusted to recommended values.

Spa pool water should be tested prior to use and at least three times per week using a reliable pool water test kit, as advised by your pool supplier. At a minimum, each test should include a measure of; disinfection levels, pH and alkalinity. Temperature should also be tested regularly to ensure the best operating conditions for the particular type of disinfectant used in the spa pool.
It is very important that the pump lint-pot and filter are cleaned regularly to ensure they do not become a source of contamination for the spa pool water.

If a sand filter is used, the water used to backwash (rinse) the filter must be disposed of into the sewer or into separate underground soakage if in an unsewered area.
